IMG Applicant Criteria
The University of Washington Internal Medicine Residency Program will accept applications from International Medical Graduates only if they meet all three (3) of the following criteria:
1. The applicant must be either:
A permanent resident of one of these WWAMI states
- Washington
- Wyoming
- Alaska
- Montana
- Idaho
OR
Sponsored by a faculty member of the University of Washington school of medicine who has a personal or professional relationship with the applicant.
The sponsoring faculty member must submit a letter or recommendation to ERAS that contains:
- A description of the relationship with the applicant
- Information about the applicant’s qualifications and clinical skills.
2. The applicant must have documentation of:
At least 8 weeks (2 months) of internal medicine clinical clerkships and/or sub-internships at an LCME-accredited U.S., Puerto Rican, or Canadian medical school.
This training must involve direct patient care responsibilities.
Observer status ("observerships") or consultation rotations do not meet this requirement.
A letter of recommendation from the supervising physician for this training must be included in your ERAS application. The letter must include the date, location, and type of clinical experience.
OR
Successful completion of at least three months of residency training in an ACGME-accredited program.
This training must involve direct patient care responsibilities.
A letter of recommendation from the program director must accompany your ERAS application and must include the dates and description of the clinical experiences.
3. The applicant must apply through the ECFMG ERAS program. Applications must be received by the ERAS post office no later than September 30.
