VISAS
The UW Internal Medicine Residency Program accepts foreign national physicians who meet UW Eligibility and Selection requirements into its accredited residency program.
International medical graduates requiring visa sponsorship must obtain a J-1 visa sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
Generally, the UW does not provide H-1B sponsorship for residents or fellows in its clinical training programs unless the individual is otherwise ineligible for a J-1 visa. During the current match cycle, we will not consider foreign nationals who are graduates of U.S. medical schools due to the uncertainty of obtaining an OPT and subsequent H-1B visas.
Please refer to UW Medicine Graduate Medical Education Policies and Procedures for more details.
INTERVIEW PROCEDURES
Invitations to interview with our faculty will be offered to applicants who we believe to have a reasonable chance of matching into one or more of our tracks.
We will not offer more invitations than we can accommodate. Since there is a limit to the number of applicants we can accommodate on any given day, we suggest you schedule your interview soon after receiving an invitation.
Interviews are assigned on the basis of track and special interests. Interviews are intended to learn more about your special interests, accomplishments, and future goals; and to answer your questions about our program. We will not attempt to assess your medical knowledge during the interview.

We have no available R2/R3 positions for the 2026-276 academic year and are not accepting applications for such. If senior resident positions are available for 2027-28, we will update this page and will accept applications via ERAS.
